Having thanks when it seems impossible.
Three years ago, I shared these thoughts, they hold true today. . .
So it is Thanksgiving. You can still celebrate even if your life isn’t perfect. Thanksgiving doesn’t mean you have to have a turkey on the table (although you may be sitting next to one). Doesn’t mean you don’t deeply grieve the loss of a loved one or that you are picking up the pieces of a broken dream. Doesn’t mean your bank account has a balance. Doesn’t mean you agree with all the decisions of your loved ones. Maybe, just maybe it has something to do with the words written long ago, by a man named Paul, who found himself in prison and wasn’t sure if he was going to be executed, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”.
Maybe having a heart of thanksgiving is intimately tied to giving your concerns and your heart to our creator, your brokenness, your pain, your fears and concerns your joys and your sorrows and no matter what the situation is being thankful for God’s faithfulness even in times of trials and an unknown future. So in all sincerity- Happy Thanksgiving!
Here is a newer song to remind us of ways we can be thankful today!
